Burnside Hotel & Spa Wedding Photography
This was a unique opportunity for Burnside Hotel & Spa Wedding Photography. It’s not common to be asked to shoot a wedding with a Christian and Greek Orthodox ceremony combined. I always knew Melina and Ed’s wedding would be a little different and what an enlightening experience it was.
When I arrived in Kendal, I met the bridal party at Melina’s parents flat, above some shops. I was taken aback by the size of the flat, and the height of the ceilings. It had such an authentic feel. Melina was getting ready and the girls were having their hair and makeup done. It wasn’t before more people arrived, Greek and British and it was soon time to head over to the church.
The ceremony started with a usual Christian bit and then had the Greek part in the middle. It was quite an experience to see how the difference in cultures contrast. Melina’s Dad had briefed me on the ceremony before hand, so I knew what to expect to a certain degree. After the ceremony, we were off to the Burnside Hotel in Windermere for the reception. We went straight into some groups shots which was followed by the Wedding Breakfast.
After the Wedding Breakfast, we took the opportunity to do the Bride and Groom portraits. We decided to go in my car, to a spot beside the lake that Ed knew. It’s a good job he did because it was a fantastic spot. We parked in the car park and walked along to the lake, stopping on the way to take advantage of the scenery. The pier that we found was absolutely perfect for the shot I had in mind, the shot at the top of this page. I knew I wanted to get a wide shot of the lake with them on a pier and after a few mins of test shots, I got the one I was waiting for. We headed back to the car park and back to the reception.
When we got back, the evening guests were arriving. Melina and Ed took the opportunity to greet their guests whilst I got ready for the first dance. After the first dance, we went into a traditional Greek dance where everybody held hands and danced around in circles which was shortly followed by the girls taking the stage for their dance off (if you can call it that).
What a fantastic wedding and once again, the rain was conveniently timed so it was clear when it needed to be. I really love the lake shot on the pier and it was well worth the walk to get there, thanks Ed for pointing us in the right direction! A huge congratulations to Melina and Ed and a big thanks to everyone who was involved, especially the staff at Burnside Hotel & Spa.
